The Illusion of Permanence: Why We Resist Change

Welcome to September Newsletter!

Growing up, the first day of school always marked the very first day of fall. It brought an unmistakable shift—moving from the lighthearted, playful energy of summer into a season of structure and homework. While heading back to the classroom wasn't always thrilling, the arrival of autumn itself always was. The vibrant colors of the leaves, the cool air, and the first rainy days carried a distinct magic that still surfaces in my memories this time of year.

As adults, we spend enormous energy trying to predict, anticipate, and control what comes next. We call it preparation. Yet even our most meticulous plans rarely match reality with complete precision because we overlook a fundamental truth: things change.

Our protective minds crave permanence. We assume our joyful states, our relationships, and even our discomforts will remain fixed in place. When we are happy, we fear the end of that joy; when we face discomfort, we struggle to imagine a way through. In both moments, we let anxiety about the future pull us out of the present.

The Energetic Cycle of Life

In The Energy Codes, Dr. Sue Morter describes the natural cycle of life moving through distinct phases: Creation, Sustenance, Destruction, and the Void.

The natural cycle of life isn’t a closed, flat circle—it is an upward spiral. Each phase serves as the foundation for the next. When we fully experience where we are right now, we move forward organically. When we feel stuck, it is often because we haven't allowed ourselves to truly inhabit the present phase; without receiving what this moment has for us, we cannot truly step into the next chapter.

The Wisdom of the Trees

We never see a tree shy away from the seasons. A tree comes alive to the fullest in the spring, thrives and bears fruit in the summer, and when autumn arrives, begins to look bare and dry—yet it isn’t dying.

Long before a single leaf falls, the tree intentionally draws its vital nutrients inward—down into the trunk and roots, condensing its life force where the eyes cannot see. It deliberately lets go of what has served its purpose so it can protect its core and survive the coming frost. In winter, the tree rests, holding all the possibilities that a new spring will bring, fearless of the future.

A Gentle Question for You

If you feel stuck in a particular season of your life or find yourself anxious about the next, bring your focus back to the roots of the present moment and ask yourself:

"How can I live this exact moment to the fullest?"

Embracing Your Next Season

Transitioning between the seasons of life can feel daunting when the mind demands certainty. If you are navigating a major shift, feeling stuck in an old pattern, or struggling to find grounded clarity in the present, you don't have to navigate it alone.

As a coach, I am here to help you reconnect with your core, release what no longer serves you, and step into your next chapter with ease and intention. Simply click here to book a discovery call.
